Being sued by a debt collector

If you are being sued by a debt collector, you may have a valid defense even if you think you owe the debt. You should talk to an attorney to know what your rights are. Is the debt collector violating the FDCPA laws by asking for attorney’s fees they are not entitled to? Are they attempting to collect an amount that is higher than what is owed? Have they added late fees, over-limit fees and other costs they are not entitled to? If you are being sued by a company that claims they now own the debt, do they have legally sufficient proof that they are now the owner of the account?
