If You Need Help Fighting Debt Collection Harassment

Harassment is against both State and Federal laws. The Fair Debt Collection Practice Act was passed by Congress to protect consumers from abusive debt collection. Is a debt collector threatening you over the telephone? Are they calling you at work or calling your neighbors or family members?

Call the Law Offices of Recordon & Recordon for a free consultation. Remember, if we take your case you pay us nothing up front. We get paid by the company harassing you. Call us immediately for a free consultation at 619-236-1223.

Here are a few things to remember:

  • Open your mail and read collection letters.
  • Don’t make a small payment on an old debt as it can start the Statute of Limitations (the time limit a company has to file a law suit) all over again.
  • In California, the Statute of Limitations is four (4) years from the date of the last payment.
  • Telephone harassment is against both State and Federal laws.
  • Debt collectors must treat you with Dignity, Truth, Respect and Fairness.

We know dealing with bad debt collectors can be very stressful. They may use obscene language, threats or embarrass you by contacting family, neighbors, employees or your employer.
Call us at 619-236-1223.

Debt Collection Harassment

State and Federal laws protect consumers against harassing debt collection practices. Even if you think you might owe the debt, these laws protect you. A debt collector violates these laws by:

  • Calling at work after you tell them to stop.
  • Disclosing your debt to others
  • Threatening you with arrest or jail if you don’t pay the debt
  • Suing you on an account that is more than four years old in California
  • Threatening to garnish your wages
  • Contacting your neighbors or co-workers
  • Using profane or abusive language
  • Misrepresenting the amount of the debt
  • Contacting family members

Stopping Phone Calls

If you send a letter asking the collector to stop calling you, they must comply with your request. Be sure to send the letter certified, return receipt requested and keep a copy of the letter.

If this happens to you, call us for a free consultation. Call 619-236-1223
